The Jones family in Clearfield County is without water Tuesday evening, and it isn't because of the hot weather.
Larry Jones, who owns a home along Scotts Road in Ginter, told 6 News that on Tuesday morning he woke up to no water.
Ginter, which is located in Gulich Township, is just south of Houtzdale.
Less than 2,500 feet from Jones' home, Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc. has been drilling a gas well.
Jones told 6 News that he had a water well dug on his property back in 2007.
Three weeks ago, Jones noticed that water from his well started to trickle.
Before the company began drilling, neighbors within a close proximity to where the gas well was to be drilled were notified by the company.
Jones said that he was not made aware of the upcoming drilling.
Under what is now law, companies must notify property owners who live within 3,000 feet of a permitted well. Prior to the bill being signed into law, companies only had to notify those within 1,000 feet.
This new legislation passed in February in the Pennsylvania House by a vote of 101-90.
Jones is upset that he was never notified.
"I don't care what you do. I'm not after gas, you are, just don't mess up my water. That's all I told them...well guess what?" said Jones.
Tuesday morning state Representative Camille "Bud" George contacted officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Carrizo Oil & Gas.
George told 6 News that both DEP and Carrizo Oil & Gas said that they would send representatives to Gulich Township.
Jones also had the company that drilled his water well come back out to check things. The company had no answers. Jones was told the only reason they could think of why the well was dry was due to the drilling.
"I know what the law says and I know what being responsible is all about. In this case I hope that the county is held responsible. I hope that they do what they should do if in fact they're at fault," said George.
6 News tried contacting Carrizo Oil & Gas but calls were not returned.
Jones said that he and his family only have bottled water. The family rented a portable restroom on Tuesday. However, they have no idea how they will take showers.
Jones and George are hoping the water situation is fixed soon
A Texas-based Marcellus Shale company is headed to the Dubois Regional Airport.
Orion Drilling company, which is headquartered in Corpus Christi, told 6 News that construction for its Pennsylvania facility will begin this summer.
Brett Schellenberg, a marketing executive at Orion Drilling, said that the company already has an office inside of the airport.
Schellenberg said that the company decided to build a facility at the Dubois Regional Airport because of its location.
"We like the (Interstate) 80 corridor. It's pretty good in means of transportation from one side of the state to the other," said Schellenberg.
Schellenberg said that at this facility they are hoping it can act as a central hub for its company's needs.
Schellenberg said that having a facility at the airport would allow workers to get to areas to the west where Utica shale production is going on in Ohio. He said that its location would also put workers in a position where they could easily travel to New York in the event that the state began Marcellus Shale operations.
"I think it is a good idea. At the same time we can create jobs for the local region which would be a great benefit," said Director of Economic Development Bradley Lashinsky.
Jeff Weis, a vice president at Orion Drilling, told 6 News that the company is looking to hire around 75 people.
Weis and Schellenberg said that most of the jobs available will be positions on rigs.
Schellenberg said that the company will operate three rigs in Susquehanna County.
On Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. there will be a job fair at the CareerLink in Dubois.
Schellenberg said that they are hoping to hire as many local hands as possible.
"We are looking to hire local people because it is much more beneficial in the long run for our company," said Weis.
Those working on the rigs would work 14 days on followed by 14 days off.
Schellenberg said that the positions pay around $100,000.
"I really think that the Marcellus Shale gas industry is going to produce vast opportunities for people to come involved in the industry," said Lashinsky.
6 News has uncovered new details about a man accused of severely beating another man in suburban Johnstown. 6 News has learned the accused man works with children inside a local school district.
Police said Joshua Miller, 25, severely beat John Carothers, 62, on Carother's own property, after he asked Miller to move his car.
Carother's family told 6 News he's had extensive surgeries and has needed critical care since the attack two weeks ago.
On Tuesday Miller was suspended from his job.
6 News confirmed that Miller holds a job working with students in the Greater Johnstown School District. He is not an employee of the district, rather he works through an outside program. The 21st Century Community Learning Center is a federally funded program that works with school-aged children and has been around for 12 years.
6 News talked with the director of the program and he said it's held after school and is open to children in all grades. The program focuses on several different areas including nutrition, academics, arts and recreation.
The director said the staff is made up of various people, all who have an extensive background in their field. The program director also said that all staff members are required to have background checks and submit references before they're hired.
Officials would not comment on the specifics of Miller's job, but both the superintendent of the Greater Johnstown School District as well as the director of the Cambria County Community Development Group, say Miller has been suspended from his job and the program, as of Tuesday morning.
Miller is still out on bond with a hearing set for next week.
